Featured Falcons: Lindsay Shippey

Lindsay Shippey said there was always someone to hang out with when she attended the University of Montevallo.

She even met her husband, Ian, at the University.

That’s why the 2013 UM graduate loves it when she bumps into other graduates, whether that person attended the University during her time or not. It’s an “instant connection.”

“I get very excited when I run into fellow UM grads, especially when I find coworkers who graduated from UM,” Shippey said. “Getting to talk about College Night and trying to explain it to non-UM grads is always fun. People have a hard time grasping a homecoming tradition around musical theatre.”

Shippey graduated from UM with a bachelor’s degree in finance and a minor in management information systems. The Birmingham native now works as a corporate and specialty banking business analyst at Regions Bank – a bank she’s worked at since graduating from Montevallo, and one she said she would have had a much harder time getting hired at if it wasn’t for the University.

Shippey credits her education and connections at Montevallo for her career, without which she said she would have had a much tougher time getting her foot in the door to start her career.

“After graduating, I knew I wanted to stay in Birmingham and loved working with numbers,” she said. “Banking was the perfect next step because Birmingham is such a banking hub.”

“Dr. Bill Hamer (retired business professor, former director of the Grainger Center for Professional Development and member of the Stephens College of Business Board of Advisors) connected me with the right people at Regions while I was in school, and it led to my first job working in the finance department supporting corporate banking.”
